Will I need a Visa?

Visa requirements differs on nationality and country visited and may change at any time.

At the moment US citizens DO NOT require a visa for Botswana, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Seychelles and South Africa.

US citizens require a visa for Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Visas that may be obtained on arrival must be paid in cash – If using US dollars new bills dated year 2007 or later (large President’s head) and in good condition (no marks or tearings) – Please bring small notes for visa payments

Will someone meet me when I arrive in Africa?

Depending on the travel package that you choose, for some guided tours – your guide will meet you when you arrive at the airport at the start of the safari. Where possible Iko Travel Adventure representative will meet you either at the beginning, middle or end of the trip.

Hw can family members contact us while on Safari?

If family members or friends need to get a message to you on safari, the best way is to contact us via email (info@ikotraveladventures.com) or phone (+267 77426287, + 267 73890244). We are on this lines 24/7 will then respond accordingly.

Are children allowed on Safari and if so, how old?

Depending on the lodge/safari camp you are visiting some activities are restricted to 12 years and above due to safety reasons and some are more flexible on age restrictions.

Some campsites and lodges do charge 50% for children below 12 years and 100% – 12 years and above for accommodations and camping.

Do I need Travel Insurance?

We recommend that you take out travel protection that offers to protect against cancellation, lost luggage, trip interruption and offers Emergency Assistance.

Do I need any vaccinations? What about Malaria?

Vaccinations that might be recommended are Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Meningitis and Rabies depending on the country you are visiting and the duration of your stay and the risks of the disease in that country at that particular time.

Malaria is a disease spread through mosquito bites and is found in most African countries and precautions should be taken.

Please contact your Doctor to discuss your trip and what vaccinations you may require.

Can we use our credit cards? Are there ATM's?

Most top hotels, restaurants, lodges, permanent safari camps and shops accept Visa and MasterCard. American Express and Diner’s Club are also accepted by most first-class hotels and many businesses. However, however America Express and Diner’s Club are not often taken in more remote areas and camps. For the remotest camps/lodges whilst out on safari we recommend cash.

ATMs are found many towns and Cities and Visa is the most reliable card to use at ATMs. MasterCard might not be accepted as well as other international ATM/credit cards. Limited amounts per day in local currency only can be withdrawn from at an ATM.

How do I keep my valuables/ money safe?

Most of the hotels and, lodges and Safari camps have got safe for valuables or you may be asked to leave it at the reception for safe keeping however – We recommend that you keep your money/passports/tickets with you at all times if you don’t feel comfortable with safes at the establishments.

Are there luggage limitations?

Your weight allowance will vary depending on your safari itinerary, airline and class of travel.

What plugs/ adaptors do I need? How do I charge my camera/ laptop/ mobile phone?

We recommend an international travel adapter kit for the countries you are visiting.

Will my Apnea machine work in the bush?

Some lodges and safari camps have got a reliable supply of power , but when staying in mobile camps or where electricity may not always be available, we suggest you take a power inverter as the camp will be able to provide 12Volt battery power.

Will there be internet/ WiFi/ Cellular coverage?

Internet and wifi do work in some of the hotels, lodges and camps , however in some remotest areas there is NONE or you might have a slow connection due to the location and network coverage.

Your cell phone provider will be able to assist you with the possibility of using your own phone and costs. Roaming services while in Africa; In some cases you might need an open phone which can allow other SIM cards and in that case you might be able to buy SIM cards if need be.

Is the water safe to drink and will bottled water be provided?

We recommend you drink plenty of water especially during the warmer months. Portable drinking water is provided everywhere and bottled water is available also for purchase.

How good is the accommodation?

Depending on your travel/safari style you choose, there are tented chalets/cabins in remote safari camps to normal rooms in hotels/ lodges in towns and cities.

Some remote tented accommodations are top class with 5 star ratings depending on the location.

Should I bring a camera or binoculars?

Yes, a camera and binoculars are recommended to capture the memories of your vacation. Please contact us on what type/size camera lenses and binoculars you should bring – depending on your safari interest.
